As part of efforts to ensure smooth running of public primary schools, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board met with Basic Education stakeholders today in anticipation and readiness for the disbursement of increased schools running cost to be released for better and effective utilisation. The upward review of running cost to schools was done at the behest of Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the support of the Hon. Commissioner of Education. Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo to ensure the attainment of a conducive learning environment for effective teaching and learning activities.
At the meeting which had in attendance Board Members, Directors, Education Secretaries, Executives of Association of Primary Schools Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) and the Chairman of NUT, Hon. Wahab Alawiye-King- the Executive Chairman LASUBEB, stated that the gathering is premised on the desire to ensure judicious use of the increased running cost.
He added that the welfare and well-being of the school is very paramount to Mr. Governor, noting that school managers should ensure effective utilization of the boosted fund released for schools maintenance.
While addressing stakeholders on the collective effort made in realizing the review, he urged them to map out an action plan to ensure accountability of the funds expended on school management.
Alawiye-King noted that the fund disbursed to the school is to ensure effective maintenance of the school and its environment. He noted that it is not the quantum that matters but the effective management of the limited resources.
Comrade Hassan Akintoye, NUT Chairman appreciated Mr. Governor for the upward review in the running cost to schools. He stated that the increase will boost effective service delivery in schools, adding that the union will ensure that the fund is spent judiciously on its intended purpose.
